I had known of plenty of fairy tales, but it was interesting to remind myself of the details I had forgotten and see patterns I probably was not fully cognizant of as a child. This topic will be relevant as long as misogyny can be traced in our society—as long as I am alive. Being able to identify tactics used to villainize women is important in any media analysis. It makes sense to start with fairy tales, as it is not only the first media most people are exposed to, but also the media most children today first consume. They are straightforward and wear their values on their sleeve, though this is not always perceptible to children. Returning to the media that has helped shape the ideologies of generations (including my own) has been interesting, and I have found myself looking at other topics through the lens of my research.
